President Donald Trump’s White House and CNN got into a bit of a squabble on Wednesday after the decision was made to bar a certain CNN correspondent from attending a press conference set to take place that afternoon in the Rose Garden.

CNN predictably pitched a self-righteous fit and was joined in their anti-Trump tantrum by the other major mainstream media outlets, which somewhat surprisingly included the Fox News Channel.

The CNN correspondent was Kaitlan Collins, who was serving as the pool reporter for the major network on Wednesday and drew the ire of the White House Communications Office after she shouted a series of “inappropriate” questions at the president during a brief photo-op event in the Oval Office Wednesday morning, according to Fox News.

Trump was hosting European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to discuss a major trade deal between the United States and European Union that would see a reduction in tariffs and increase in free trade, but Collins had other issues on her mind when she began to shout her questions as reporters were asked to leave.

Rather than ask about the trade deal or tariffs, Collins repeatedly asked about the leaked conversation between Trump and former attorney Michael Cohen and if Trump thought Cohen had betrayed him, along with questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Collins was later informed that she would not be allowed to attend the joint news conference in the Rose Garden with Trump and Juncker, though it was made clear that her network’s cameras, producers and another correspondent were still invited to attend — but CNN pitched a fit anyway and issued a sanctimonious statement with regard to the incident.

That statement declined to note how Collins had been shouting her questions repeatedly, even after being asked to leave along with other members of the media, and declared, “This decision to bar a member of the press is retaliatory in nature and not indicative of an open and free press. We demand better.”

Incredibly, Fox News President Jay Wallace issued a brief statement expressing the network’s support for CNN, and said, “We stand in strong solidarity with CNN for the right to full access for our journalists as part of a free and unfettered press.”

WATCH:

That statement was echoed by Fox’s chief political anchor Bret Baier on his “Special Report” program, during which he read CNN’s statement in all seriousness and proclaimed, “As a member of the White House press pool, Fox stands firmly with CNN on this issue of access.”

The only problem is, CNN itself was never denied “access” to the White House or a specific event, only the one correspondent who had rudely interjected her shouted off-topic questions during the earlier Oval Office photo-op event, where such behavior is generally frowned upon.

The New York Post noted that the statement from Fox seemed especially biting considering that the new White House Communications Director is none other than Bill Shine, formerly a long-time top executive at the Fox network.

The Post also reported that, according to Collins’ account of the matter, she was pulled aside and “scolded” by Shine following the Oval Office incident, at which point she was informed that she would not be allowed to attend the subsequent joint press conference in the Rose Garden, though her network was still invited to attend.

While we totally get that Fox News feels a need to stand up in defense of the First Amendment and feels compelled to support their journalistic colleagues, that is not what this incident was about at all.

In truth, this is nothing more than a rude reporter being barred from a single event in response to her “inappropriate” behavior earlier in the day, not an attack on the First Amendment, a free press or even the CNN network as a whole.

Furthermore, it is a fair assumption to conclude that a vast majority of Fox viewers aren’t particularly fond of CNN, and most likely don’t appreciate seeing their favored media outlet essentially betray them and the president they support to align themselves with a sanctimonious anti-Trump “fake news” network like CNN.

This was probably not the smartest decision ever made by Fox, and while some viewers will no doubt be angered over it, the outrage will eventually pass and Fox will likely continue to provide fair and balanced coverage of the Trump administration while the other networks continue to sink in the deep end of the pool of their incessant anti-Trump hatred.

Never liked Bret Baier. He is a lib taking a paycheck from conservatives. He has all the characteristics of being a weasel.

Bret is very much a conservative. I just don’t think he had all of the details. He was wrong on this one.

        July 28, 2018 at 3:51 am

I agree with dfinch…he is indeed very conservative, and lacking details of the entire act by the CNN reporter. Reporters should stick to the topic at hand and not attempt to bring up topics that are not being discussed, simply to try and make a point, or trip someone up…CNN reporters are the worst for that. Screw’em…

He must have been listening to CNN’s side of the story and he should no better. They are just the biggest liars out there and also didn’t Obummer treat FOX pretty badly at his press conferences.

But isn’t Bret Baier supposed to be INTELLIGENT and doesn’t this overpaid desk jockey/news reader know what the REAL issue was – and isn’t that his responsibility to do so?!? Baier can join Shep Smith and continue to drink the libtoid Kool-Aid! Who cares? He’s just one of the pack now – NOT a THINKING individual! Turn his sorry ass OFF!!

I wil turn the channel on Brett Now like I change the channel on show Smith. Brett Beier knee the details he’s just trying to suck up to the network, which by the way shouldn’t have stood with CNN. she was rude and trying to embarrass Trump. She was asking inappropriate in the questions she was shouting. Good bye Brettn I by don’t yiu go to CNN. You probably be a better fit there.

DT He lost me big time over this. I suppose he has to do what the network tells him to but with such vehemence? The point that is lost here is when CNN called the girl’s question “THE NEWS OF THE DAY”!! Cohen was the NEWS OF THE DAY? REALLY? REALLY? The NEWS OF THE DAY was a HISTORIC ANNOUNCEMENT in the Oval Office with a very important EU GUEST. THAT WAS THE NEWS OF THE DAY and the girl’s six questions shouted out were VERY INAPPROPRIATE. There should be some decorum when they are allowed in the White House. In fact, they should stop having those news people in the Oval Office as it was a complete embarrassment, all screaming at once. In fact when having important guests I would say do not invite the press in at all and just send out press releases afterwards. That’ll teach them to have more manners. I never have watched CNN but FOX had better look out in future and Bret Baier is going to be turned off.

      • Severa Hill

        July 28, 2018 at 12:25 pm

I turned Bret Baier off ! He reported on something that was out of context with the CNN reporter Collins. When a certain subject is covered stay with that subject and don’t start hollering like an idiot about it. Seems her questions were hateful and Cruel. Bret Baier you are a Traitor and I am fully disappointed in you ! I hope you felt good about yourself going against our president for someone who was very unprofessional! You should know better that CNN spews nothing but hate toward our president and the Bret Baier is not good news reporting. Shame on you !

My sentiments are much the same about FOX. I still tune in to Laura Ingram, and Martha MacCallum occasionally, But there is so darn much people talking over each other, and especially on Sean Hannity. much of the time he won’t allow the guests to complete their point, before he interrupts, I realize that it’s his show, and he calls the shots, but sometimes he should shut the hell up and let them finish their point before he cuts them off. even If I agree or disagree with them, I still want to hear what they have to say.

Blah Blah Blah, Bias Faux News, finally found some journalistic integrity and Bias Conservative, hit below the belt, fighters have a tissy-fit. Then the Post states, “—noted that the statement from Fox seemed especially biting considering that the new White House Communications Director is none other than Bill Shine, formerly a long-time top executive at the Fox network.” LOL, I guess, since he use to be with Fox, Fox is not supposed to have any integrity. So what I ask of Post, is Fox supposed to toe the political line and give the White house complete backing and unswerving loyalty and privilege? Just goes to prove that Conservative Fighters put their bias agenda above honor and integrity. AKA, “Finger pointing, YOUR FIRED!” Mentality. This is definitely a Conservative Fighters FAIL!

Bret Baier is defiitely a liberal pretending to be a conservative . I haven’t liked him since the first republican debate in 2016 when he didn’t put Meghan Kelly in her place. My husband despised him. We are going to discontinue watching The Special Report. We have better things to do and if he goes, Fox will be better without him!

Why would he put Megyn in her place? Roger Ailes ok’d the questions.

      • Severa Hill

        July 28, 2018 at 12:44 pm

Megyn Kelly was out of line. She hates Trump and asked questions that did not pertain to the debate. She was always putting Trump down so she made him angry and he reared back at her. When someone provokes a human being like Megyn Kelly did do not expect anything positive coming back. She was very rude and angry when she asked a question that was not part of the debate. Then she came on Facebook saying can you believe? Every one came back at her with a negative answer against her rude and angry tone of voice. I watched her do it and I too became very angry at her. She thought she was the queen of Sheba ! I was so glad when she left Fox. On another note I will definitely miss KIMBERLY GUILFOYLE. She was so professional and toned her questions and answers so well. Fox bring her back ! I will not miss Bret Baier if he goes to CNN, period ! He is a traitor to Fox and Fox is a TRAITOR TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I HAVE A FAVORITE NEWS CHANNEL NOW GOOD REPORTING NEWS CHANNEL ONE AMERICA NEWS !

I’m glad Fox News did the right thing and stood with CNN. ALL media should stand together when it comes to having the right to ask any and all questions of the president, regardless of who the president is. The media, the press – they’re the “Fourth Rail” of government and they’re there to keep our elected officials honest and accountable, and God knows that’s not easy to do under the best of circumstances. ALL presidents have to face a hostile press and there are times we may feel the press is being too hard on them, but that’s just the way it is.

    • Vhfan

Frank, you’re DEAD WRONG on this particular issue!! POTUS does NOT have to take the BS questions asked by mental midgets wrapped in a notepad & a pencil!! Perhaps he should have stated at the beginning, “This is an important event and ONLY questions about the EU and our trade relations will be entertained this afternoon! If members of the press persist in shouting out INAPPROPRIATE questions, they will be asked to leave the room!!”

Unfortunately, you too are missing the point. This was a courtesy extended to the press to enter the Oval Office. It’s not that she asked questions, it was her totally inappropriate behavior. Yes, there are rules of decorum that everyone has to follow in life. In this situation she acted like a total jackass. Totally rude and uncouth and completely lacking. She yell and scream her off topic questions as much as she likes, with all the other reporters at the daily press briefing. When Trump is on his way to or from somewhere etc. CNN was not banned. SHE was because she acted like a 2 year old.

WRONG! I am not a journalist but I feel that the Oval Office and a guest from another country sitting by the President. Type of question at that time was not the place to do this? So I disagree with this Fox head and Bret and not how I have seen Bret react before so not sure why he took this side ? Guess have to ask him. I do not believe journalist have total control to just speak out at anytime there should be certain places and times you might ask these personal type when there is so much more happening now with other problems. Personally I could care less about all of this sexual and who paid off who when and how . If any is even true oh well be up to Melania to make a decision on their future not for us . Pres Trump is working very hgard for us the people the working middle class at last someone does give a damn again on where are JOBS all went away and the living we made before is coming back again. Fox, as a whole, has always been against Pres. Trump. Only a few of its hosts like Dobbs, Pirro, Hannity, to some limited extent Varney have been genuinely supportive of the president and his efforts to MAGA. Possibly one of two others are supportive sometimes. Most of the Fox crew are never-Trumpers who bite their tongues (but roll their eyes) in an effort to keep their ratings up with Conservatives. But they are not so good at hiding their true feelings as they think and they never miss a chance to give a back handed slight thinking we won’t notice as they subtbly seek to undermine his presidency. For fair and unsensationalized news coverage (without a bunch of speculation or personal opinions) I watch One America News Network.

I really don’t know any of these people. I get all the news I want from my local stations. I don’t watch individual shows where other people give their own opinions about what they think people should be doing, or shouldn’t be doing. I only want to hear news, not an opinion. I don’t want or need anyone’s opinion. I’m very capable to deduce an opinion all on my own. Don’t you know what they say about opinions? “Opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one and they usually stink.” That being said, nothing gives ANYONE the right to be rude. People these days think they can say and do whatever they please without any repercussions. What makes a person think they don’t have to be polite, to anyone, much less the President of the United States. I would have gotten backhanded for talking to another the way people do now. No respect for anyone, not even any respect for themselves. Sad world we live in.

I don’t see what the problem is with reporter Collins being barred from the press meetings, cnn is still allowed to attend. Collins was just being her usual self, obnoxious and obtrusive, there were other reporters asking questions and she just continued talking over them out of turn. Far as Fox goes, sounds to me Soros and the deep state must be getting to their leader, maybe he’s looking for considerations from cnn. The reporter was absolutely rude and thought the press meeting was just for her, not this time.

“This decision to bar a member of the press is retaliatory in nature and not indicative of an open and free press. We demand better.” ~ CNN

We the people need to send a message to both CNN and Fox that We the people “Demand Better”. This incessant intentional effort to embarrass both President Trump and we the people while having engagements with foreigner dignitaries is well past way over the top. That’s not news reporting. That’s an intentional attack.

I stopped watching Brett Baier some time ago. My hubby hates him and Chris Wallace. Baier is a Never Trumper and can hardly utter his name without turning white. I spotted that some time ago. He was wrong to opine on this until he knew for sure who was in the wrong. But he apparently decided Pres. Trump had to be wrong. If it was me…this cow would never get to attend another press conference again. She should have shown a bit of respect if not for Trump at least for the EU leader. And if she can’t do that, then she should be out on her ear.

Fox is going to drop to the very bottom , how dare they go against Trump . The ONLY reason they have better ratings than the others is because they are considered somewhat more friendly to Trump.

This was a monumental mistake and they will lose viewers over it .

    July 28, 2018 at 8:00 am

This was so outrages , the CNN liberal activist wouldn’t shutup asking question after question after question and should of been thrown out with force and Fox sides with her .

You don’t side with fake news if you want to remain relevant as a network and Fox will lose viewership as they should .

The ONLY reason Fox is still relevant is because they have a select few shows that are fair to Trump thats the ONLY reason.

You want the best ratings possible , treat Trump really well you’re guaranteed to dominate but you diss Trump even once you will pay .

I saw the whole thing as it went down!! President Trump is sitting with Mr, Juncker, and CNN reporter Collins started yelling and screaming completely off subject!! Mr, Juncker couldn’t understand what was happening, and Trump was saying thank you to all the press, and CNN Collins is screaming and making a real ass of herself!! She’s lucky security didn’t come in and drag her away!! If that’s the way reporters act then I would ban them forever and just have press-room info and no more Oval Office!! I was watching and was embarrassed for Trump and EU leader Juncker!! Not cool at all!!

That’s okay Brett, join the ranks of falling viewer counts, Simple as that. ‘Fair and balanced’ does have a component you are ignoring, viewership… which has its interpretation … not matching this particular corporate position FOX has where ‘anything goes’.. and not yours either Brett.. as we’ve noticed your ‘staying above the fray’ is simply cowardice to promote self regulation for your ‘workmates’ behavior.
The other MSMs have hidden behind ‘access’ and Amendment rights to justify egregious behavior which literally formed the ‘Fair and Balanced’ opportunity for FOX… and now you’ve blown it, for loudmouths at events/ big mistake.

Fox Entertainment has now been purchased by Disney. Don’t know if this includes Fox Cable News but if it does, look for more liberal leanings. There is such a lack of conversative voices in the media that I hate to see Brett and Fox take this position. Wish someone would start another conservative news network so there is more than one voice for conservatives.

Following an agenda…staying on subject… at meetings, speeches, announcements is how we maintain something from devolving into chaos as does not shouting out questions, creating a din of…yes…chaos. The primary question…What would happen if everyone did that? applies. Reporters who step out of this behavior cannot be allowed to do it for long. At some point they must be replaced with someone who will allow the rules of engagement to be followed if we are to maintain some semblance of a workable environment. Banning a reporter from one announcement is not banning the reporter’s employer, which could have been done. Replacing that reporter or changing her behavior is what they should do now. Even the second grade schoolers know how to follow an agenda. It’s one of the first things youngsters learn. Let’s stop acting like there isn’t anything wrong with what she did. We all know it was wrong and cannot be allowed to continue if we are to get things done.

Incredibly, Fox News President Jay Wallace issued a brief statement expressing the network’s support for CNN, and said, “We stand in strong solidarity with CNN for the right to full access for our journalists as part of a free and unfettered press.” The only thing wrong about Wallace’s statement is CNN reporters are not journalists.

CNN finds the action to block a reporter retaliatory? CNN demands better treatment? Ironic… seeing as how the American public has been seeking the same thing from CNN since the inception of this administration’s election! Practice what you preach, you sorry trolls, and train your reporters to have better manners. One more thing….honest reporting might help your image. Think about that!

Brett is a closet lib and FOX has been drifting hard left for the past few weeks. But what makes Brett so counterfeit this time is that the entire FOX network was barred from an obama excursion and nobody whined about that or the other many times obama stifled conservative journalists. Research it and see, it was pretty bad

I think the pres should be ‘instructed’ before being in the OVAL that only questions pertaining to what the meeting is about be asked and NOTHING ELSE !!!!!!! these assholes and it is perfectly okey tho through them out if they do not respect this !not a first amendment issue but an issue of respect to President Trump ,the Oval office, and America…….period

Bret Bair came out to protest the actions taken against that self-indulgent reporter who did a no-no in the Oval Office. That arrogant reporter had the nerve to shout out questions to the President when they were all told – NO MORE QUESTIONS -. Apparently, she is hard of hearing or doesn’t understand English. In either case, she SHOULD have been barred since she doesn’t know how to behave when in the Oval Office or in front of a foreign leader. Her disrespect of the President is another reason she deserved to be barred.

    July 28, 2018 at 8:51 pm

Bret Baier and FOX president are WRONG.

It is proper to maintain a certain level of civility at these briefings. Far too much has been allowed already. The reporter demonstrated that she was not bound by proper etiquette and civility when she inappropriately shouted out inappropriate questions.

The White House was absolutely correct to ban her as a statement to others that such behavior will not be tolerated.

It is inexcusable of Baier to support such incivility.

Baier has always bent over a little bit too far to the Left for many FOX viewers. This time he may have bent too far.

Perhaps he should look for a new position at CNN or MSNBC…

If you think reporters need to show some respect for the Office of President, don’t criticize Fox for discussing the issue.

I agree that all of the reporters should take their cue from Trump’s smile and Thank You which he just says as often as people say “umm”.

Don’t complain about Fox when they report the controversy. For the record I too think the WH Press Corp is rude and I’d like to see a camera on the reporters, and not just Trump. Then we’d see who’s being rude.

Dont’ worry about whether you like Brett because he is as slanted as Hannity. He’s a REPORTER, not an Entertainer/Trump supporter like Hannity.

And clearly readers of THIS site are partisans to the point of treason.

Why dont’ you want your news STRAIGHT?

    • Ed

      July 31, 2018 at 8:09 am

And we face daily the thousands of “Entertainers/Trump haters” all over the MSM, posing as reporters.

I agree, though, that if you’d get the cameras, “On the reporters and not just Trump. Then we’d see who’s being rude.” Not sure you meant to blurt out that little gem.

Soooo tired of turning to the news and getting just another Trump-hate op-ed.

We are being Baffled with B.S. . My point is , has anyone noticed that everytime our President makes progress on diplomacy the Democrat’s force it off the front page with another wild accusation ///// Korea was nullified by immigrant family separation ,,, the Summit was nullified with the Cohen accusations and now Putin becomes villainized in order to cast doubt on a possible release of Hillary’s emails (strange the Dems villainize Putin when they embrace Russia’s “Share the wealth” doctrines) There has never been need for Unity like there is now .. because this election may be the deciding factor regarding our ability to get things done. If we lose than the Border’s open up thus providing Democrat’s a means of buying votes through entitlement ,,

Absolutely. There’s NOTHING coincidental about these news focus shifts, that’s for sure. It’s all about regaining control of the minds of the masses, lost by the most recent election. Thank goodness at least half of America’s minds aren’t lost to, “Screaming into the night sky.”

You all sound like a bunch of angry people with a persecution complex. Take a deep breath, step back from all this red meat being thrown at you and come back to the table…”one nation” mean anything to anyone? A free press is an essential part of our republic. If you don’t like what’s being said, figure out why and then state your reasons…’I just don’t’ doesn’t qualify as a reason that’s been given any thought. And stop pivoting to what someone else might have done…we’re dealing with Trump. Obama and Hillary are not in the game any longer…stay in the here and now…just because someone else made a bad decision in the past doesn’t make it OK for someone else to do it now.

Management at FOX, the sons, and even the daughter in laws are Progressive Liberals, that’s why they got rid of O’reilly who had a big audience and even though Tucker is doing a good job it isn’t the same, they’re slowly turning to the Center Left, watch them.

Right on! This is who Fox really is on letting their news people express what they believe not just one sided. The rest of media try to make that Fox is only for Conservative and Pres Trump. Do not have to be like Cooper or MSNBC and totally cover the liberal view. See this is even brought out by Conservative Media amazing.
