A mother in Florida could face up to 30 years in prison after she recorded and posted a video of her daughter licking a tongue depressor at a doctor’s office and then putting it back with the unused depressors.

Thirty-year-old Cori Ward went with her daughter to the All About Kids and Families Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. While there, her daughter licked a tongue depressor in the office and then replaced it where it could be used again on an unsuspecting patient. Ward recorded the entire thing and posted it to Snapchat on Tuesday.

She was arrested Thursday.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Department of Corrections, Ward is not eligible for bond and could face a maximum sentence of 30 years. While 30 years may seem steep for something like this, germs on a tongue depressor could be extremely harmful or fatal for another patient who was immunocompromised.

Ward was charged with “tampering with consumer product without regard for possible death/bodily injury.”

In a now-deleted Facebook post documented by WTLV-TV, Ward said that the video “doesn’t show that the items were thrown away or anything else that happened.”

She also claimed that she had not intended for the video to be part of an internet “challenge or whatever,” and that one of her “20-something friends” must have “allowed another person to video” record the Snapchat video she sent.

The stunt that Ward and her daughter pulled echoes a disturbing trend of people contaminating products and then putting them back on store shelves.

This seems to have started with a teenager who recorded herself opening a tub of Bluebell ice cream in a Texas Walmart, licking the ice cream, and then closing the tub and replacing it in the display. Police tracked her down, but declined to press charges after discovering that she was a minor.

I hope they caught the woman, videoed taking a swig of mouth wash, gargling with it and then spat it back into the bottle before replacing it on the shelf. Also tongue depressors usually come in a wrapper. What doctor’s office has them loose, uncovered in a jar?

What kind of 30 year old mother would orchestrate this video with her daughter and think it was funny, alright and so entertaining as to send it to friends on social media?
I watched the TV interview with her and was amazed that she said that she removed the contaminated depressor and others around it, as if that made everything okay. What an ignoramous.
30 year punishment is ridiculous, but 6 months to 1 year in jail would be a good lesson, and the daughter should be made to attend classes on sanitation and communicable diseases.
It appears that the morons who are participating in this new lick craze are not very intelligent, followers of anything, and need to try to gain some class and consideration for others. Whom are they imagining to be their victims when they do this? Ah…better not go there.

A perfect example of todays 12-30 year olds. So many of them find it exciting to expose others to disgusting behavior. A person that is normal would never do such things but this group thrives on shock factors.
Our jails are overrun with criminals but these people are running free. Humanity is on a path of distrution.

Yet another idiot on the loose. I agree that the mother should be prosecuted but 30 years is a bit much, considering people are convicted of manslaughter and murder and receive a less harsh sentence. Send her away for a good while and take her kid away for awhile too. Both should certainly have known the possible consequences. Oh yeah… there’s that nasty word… consequences. Action and reaction. It’s time to start keeping the idiots from breeding more idiots.
