An Atlanta charter school headed into the new school year by telling students and staff not to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning — but instead the “Wolf Pack Chant.”

Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School announced on Tuesday it will be eliminating the Pledge of Allegiance from its morning agenda to make the institution more inclusive.

“Students will continue to lead the meeting by asking our community to stand to participate in our Wolf Pack Chant together. Students will also be given the opportunity to say the pledge at another point during the school day within their classroom,” the school’s elementary campus president Lara Zelski said in a news release.

Zelski said school officials made the decision to eliminate the morning tradition based on events in the last few years where “more and more” students and staff have chosen not to recite or stand during the pledge.

“There are many emotions around this and we want everyone in our school family to start their day in a positive manner. After all, that is the whole purpose of our morning meeting,” Zelski said.

The “Wolf Pack Chant’ will be a new pledge created by the students and teachers. Zelski said the pledge, most likely named after the school’s wolf mascot, will “focus on students’ civic responsibility to their school family, community, country and our global society.”

The charter school opened in 2002 in the Grant Park neighborhood and serves students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

The Atlanta charter school isn’t the first to eliminate the Pledge of Allegiance. Bedford Area School District in southcentral Pennsylvania said in April it will not require students to stand for the pledge. School officials cited the students’ First Amendment rights as their reason.

“Personally, I hope every student will stand for our flag,” superintendent Allen Sell told WJAC-TV in April. “But if they choose not to, that’s their First Amendment rights and we, as school leaders, have the responsibility to respect that. The topic of standing, or not standing, has been getting a lot of national attention, most commonly because of protests at NFL [National Football League] games.”

President Trump brought the controversy surrounding the national anthem protest to the forefront last year when he lambasted NFL players who took a knee during the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

The NFL ultimately decided in May that players should stand for the national anthem or face a fine in the future.

Banning the pledge of allegiance to our flag and country in schools is pure crap!!!! This is the United States of American. Who gave a few members of a school board the right to make that decision. Children need to learn the words to the anthem so they will know what to do when they are in a place or situation where others are doing it. They need to be taught to take pride in their country and to respect the symbols customs and history of their country. Over the years millions of men and women have died while protecting our freedom and rights. Not teaching children about that and how to honor those people. Not standing with their hand over their heart and
while saying the anthem is like a slap in the face of those brave men and women who died and our surviving vets who fought for Americans to have those precious rights. I don’t know what Is happening to the people in this country but it breaks my heart. I don’t think a few members of a school board should have the right to do this.

My child would be transferred to another school where the Pledge of Allegiance is recited each morning. Then if the school wants to do the Wolfpack Chant or whatever other chant that can be done at a different time. This school needs to get it’s priorities in order, Pledge first, Chant later. Next they will be banning the American flag as well as anything else Patriotic. Sadly this generation will have no pride in the United States or know any of the wonderful songs.

That is what the democrats want. Destroy America within. And parents sit on their lazy butts and do nothing. No history, no pride for their own country. All in America who hates it here please leave. If you wave another country’s flag here please leave. You don’t want to be American.

The pledge , any pledge , is not particularly “conservative” .
It is easy to search its socialist origins around the time centralized government schools were becoming a monopoly .

I guess Atlanta Schools has forgotten what country they’re in. Since when is correct to show disdain for our country, flag and symbols. You are supposed to be educators to teach respect for our nation. You are politically incorrect and bigots. It would be a cold day in hell before I would let my child in this school. People you can get your children a real accredited education online that lets you do it anytime. Online homeschooling gives children higher scores (accredited) on tests. Totally proven. Don’t teach your kids this uneducated crap.

If America’s pledge is not good enough to recite, then those federal funds this school and system get are not good enough to receive. Better get started on planning those fund raisers. Let us know how that works out.

This is another example of our dumbing down of our schools. This is why people need the option to ‘OPT OUT’ of these dumb schools that are brain-washing, not teaching. There are rules that have to be followed and this is one, stand for the pledge, you don’t have to say it, but STAND! ! !

We are going to be attar soon, a war within our own country!

    SAD, SAD, SAD! ! !

Notice the last words of the schools statement that they want the children to honor the global society. Isn’t that translated to honor the New World Order the DNC acronym for one world dictatorship?

Then they should have a first amendment right not to say this chant as well.

Only one question. Will the students who disagree with the wolf pack chant be allowed to take a knee during the chant? Because I would guarentee my kid would take that knee.
