Donald Trump Jr. could be interested in running for governor of New York, according to a Thursday report from Axios.
The president’s son asserted he was very interested in running for governor, although he didn’t specifically say if he planned to run in 2018. New York’s current Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo, is expected to run for re-election in 2018, and Ballotpedia ranks the seat as “safe democratic”
“Do I want to be behind the scenes and be a mouthpiece and fight back against crazy liberal media? Maybe,” Trump told members of a prestigious gun club in Hicksville, N.Y., Wednesday.
“Going back to doing deals is boring after 18 months. The politics bug bit me.”
Current Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio is running for re-election in 2017, so that race could be available for Trump as well, although the Democratic stronghold of New York City would be difficult to win.
It’s possible Cuomo would be interested in running for the White House against President Donald Trump in 2020, opening up a potential special election to fill the post.
