This week, far-left freshman Rep. Ayanna Presley (D-MA) introduced an amendment to a House resolution, H.R. 1, that would allow 16-year-olds to vote in federal elections in 2020.

It’s no secret that younger voters, without the attendant responsibilities contingent on reaching adulthood, tend to swing far more to the political Left than older voters, so the move is a transparent and cynical attempt to gain more voters for the Democratic Party, but Pressley tried to pass it off as germinating from her concern for younger voters.

She stated, “Our young people are at the forefront of some of the most existential crises facing our communities and our society at large. I believe that those who will inherit the nation we design here in Congress by virtue of our policies and authority should have a say in who represents them.”

She added, “The time has come: Our young people deserve to have the opportunity to have their right to vote. We celebrate them often and lift them up as foot soldiers of movements. We thank them for their sweat equity that they expend at the forefront of change, and they should have the opportunity to be respected and celebrated as ballot-casters.”

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has referred to H.R. 1 as the “Democrat Politician Protection Act,” said on the Senate floor, “One of our two major political parties has begun embracing one radical, half-baked socialist proposal after another.

It’s really a sight to see,” adding that he would not bring H.R. 1 up for a vote in the Senate. He concluded, “This sprawling 622-page doorstop is never going to become law. I certainly don’t plan to even bring it to the floor here in the Senate.”

As boston.com notes, “In 1971, the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age for federal, state, and local elections from 21 to 18. Sen. Ted Kennedy, the late Massachusetts Democrat, argued at the time that getting the country’s youth to participate in the democratic process was ‘the most important single principle we can pursue as a nation.’”

The Supreme Court ruled in 1970 that Congress could change the voting age for federal elections but state and local elections could not be altered. Last year, Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) proposed a constitutional amendment to allow 16-year-olds to vote in all elections.

Criticism abounded regarding Pressley’s proposal; MassGOP chairman Jim Lyons told the Boston Herald, “It’s simply wrong. Almost all 16-year-olds I know I don’t believe should have the privilege or the authority to vote.

They simply haven’t matured to the level that they can make those types of decisions.” Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker echoed, “I did raise three teenagers, and based on that I’d be pretty dubious about lowering it to 16.”

Mary Connaughton, a director at the Pioneer Institute, and Mary Lou Daxland, president of the Massachusetts Republican Assembly, noted that 16-year-olds commonly lack knowledge of how government works.

Connaughton said, “It seems reckless and educationally irresponsible to allow underage students to vote when they haven’t even been instructed in the basics of U.S. history, civics, or the facts of our democracy.” Daxland added, “16-year-olds today don’t even know how the government works in Washington. How are they going to be able to vote if they don’t even know how government works?”

What a Moron who is trying keep herself in office, Because she is to lazy to get a job like everyone else. She like living off all the tax payers in her State. We need term limits with no retirement paid by all of us tax payers. All the rest of us have to pay into our own retirement system and pay for Medicare for our health needs

There IS a reason that 16-year-olds cannot vote and it is because their little pea brains are not fully developed! They lack the ability to see around corners or in other words, to see the consequences of their action- which I guess is why the Democrats are wanting them to vote! The more clueless you are- the more likely you are to vote democrat! If my kid was 16 and the age to vote was 16, you had better believe he would never be allowed to vote, just as he wouldn’t be allowed to drink! Both would be irresponsible of me as a parent! Yes, I would practice voter suppression as long as he/she lived under my roof!

I know quite a few that aren’t responsible enough to vote at 18 and they sure weren’t at 16. Children raised in Republican households sure wouldn’t vote Democrat since I’m sure they’ve heard all the idiotic crap Democrats have been doing lately from their parents. We’ve had the privilege of having political conversations with the young around here. The few with Democrats for parents actually have the common sense to realize how bad the party has become. For a teenager you put it in gaming language…”if you were in Fortnite and found great loot how upset would you be if you had to always give half of it to another player?” “What if you collected 100,000 in gold and almost had enough for your upgraded gear but they told you that you had to give 50,000 to a player because they had none?” Guess what answer you would get?

COMING SOON: Ultra liberal Congresswoman cries over racist denial of her right to change the Constitution because she wants to. Demands she be granted all power because the bigoted states would not ratify her amendment.

I can’t believe a politician is stupid enough to want to lower the age to 16, it should be 21. Look at the 2 young female politicians the demoncraps elected; they are as dumb as a looney bird. 16 year olds know nothing about politics, they are too busy playing games on their smartphone, with social media and social life, partying and dating, concentrating on the school work; majority of them don’t read the newspaper, watch the news and could care less. Its just another way the democraps are trying to round up more stupid people to vote. Sick. They must be afraid that the wall will be put up and they get more latinos in to vote.

Since the government and people believe our children should stay on our tax returns until the 26 years old according to the ACA affordable care act. And 99% of them play video games even at 30 years old , I would also state that if they’re in school they can’t vote either. They choose to be stuck in a socialist nanny system where their parents are paying for them or the government is paying for them. Heck some are being supported by their parents their whole life, their spouse, their boyfriend or their girlfriend, or just someone else is paying for them other than having a job and exercise in their capitalist rights and support themselves.
I would love to say that if you’re living off the government then you cannot vote.
We live well into our 80s and our 90s these days. Children have no life experience and don’t understand the difference between socialism and capitalism. They don’t understand their forefathers fought and died for freedom and the USA is it. Furthermore, raise the minimum military age to 21.

Why 16?? Why not 14 or 12 or 10 or maybe right out of kindergarten!

Talk about the inmates running the asylum…that’s the Dems dream. Can you even begin to imagine what these infanticide loving crazies would do if they had the president and senate, too. Pray to God the military takes our side when the armed revolution begins.

NO TO 16 YEARS OLD. BECAUSE OF THE $15.00 AN HOUR MOVEMENT, MOST TEENAGERS HAVE NOT EVEN WORKED AT A JOB YET. MOST EMPLOYERS WANT TO PAY $15.00 TO EXPERIENCED PEOPLE, NOT SOME 16 YEAR OLD THAT IS JUST WANTING TO DRIVE A CAR AND TRYING TO GET LAID. STUPID, STUPID DEMOCRATS!

The bitch would have taken it all the way back to birth but since they kill 85% of their offspring that wouldn’t work. So she settled for the next best thing hoping most of them make it to 16 w/o getting killed in our violent, poor cities. Maybe the bitch could implement some legislature that would actually help kids in the inner cities instead of worrying about capturing every vote

Most 18 year old voters don’t know what the hell is going on in the world of politics let alone 16 year old children. I think they should put the voting age back to 21. The Libtards are getting desperate for more uninformed voters to gather to their way of thinking, FREE STUFF FOR EVERYBODY

When these 16 year old do adult crimes they are treated as children .Children do not have adult priveledges. If they want them to vote them please apply the same reasoning to when they commit crimes. The voting she should be raised to 25.The democrats only want votes

You are a freaking idiot and it shows by suggesting such a thing!!! Sixteen year old’s can’t even do their own laundry, clean their room, hold down a job and support themselves, and have curfews!!! Plus, not knowing what to do if they get a cold or stomach ache!!!!! In other words they are children who need to be cared for!!! I for one do not want a child voting for someone who may lead my country!!!!!
