The funeral of President George H.W. Bush should have been a time to forget politics and honor an American hero and president. But what the Clintons decided to do was to ignore President Donald Trump.
Hillary Clinton did not make eye contact with President Donald Trump when her former rival from the 2016 presidential election arrived for George H.W. Bush’s funeral.
Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton sat two seats away from President Trump and first lady Melania Trump – in the first gathering of the four since Inauguration Day. Hillary Clinton looked resolutely ahead during their arrival at Washington National Cathedral.
Seated in order of presidential precedence, Trump sat in the first seat in the first row of the Washington National Cathedral with the first lady beside him.
Next to her was former President Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, and then Bill Clinton with Hillary Clinton beside him.
Two-time failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton snubbed Melania Trump during George H.W. Bush’s funeral, refusing to shake her hand or wave at the First Lady after the other former presidents and their wives did.
Melania shook hands with former President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and former President Bill Clinton as she then waved in the direction of Hillary and former President Jimmy Carter – only to receive a wave back from Carter and an awkward and bitter nod back from Hillary.
President Trump shook hands with the Obamas only.
The atmosphere seemed tense as the row of leaders awaited the casket carrying the remains of the former president. They all stared straight ahead and did not speak.
Former President George W. Bush shook hands with the entire front row when he arrived with his father’s casket.
He sat across the aisle from the row of presidents with his family but, before he took his seat, he walked over to shake hands with the Trumps, the Obamas, the Clintons, and former President Jimmy Carter.
Such a gathering of presidents and former occupants of the Oval Office has not been seen since Trump was inaugurated.
All the former Presidents and their wives either shake Melania Trump’s hand or give her a friendly wave except for Hillary Clinton who gives her an awkward nod. pic.twitter.com/1yMfOA42GC
