Recently, Donald Trump has declared that he plans to pick Elaine Chao, the former Labor Secretary for the position of Secretary of Transportation.
Chao is the wife of Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader, and she was also part of Trump’s Asian Pacific American Advisory Council during his campaign.
As Politico reported, Elaine met with the president-elect in the Trump Tower to talk about labor and transportation issues.
Jason Miller, Trump’s transition team spokesperson, said for Fox Business Network that Donald Trump should make an official announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
“We’re excited with how the administration is coming together and we think this is gonna be a great day,” stated Miller. “And don’t forget we also have another cabinet selection coming early afternoon today as the pres-elect continues to move forward.”
After asked regarding which position will be announced, Jason just said, “Transportation.”
Many names have been mentioned regarding this position among which are Rep. Lou Barletta, a strong backer of Trump’s, and Rep. John Mica, who has earlier this month lost reelection. Trump is supposed to meet with Barletta on Tuesday, and Mica claimed that at the beginning of this month he discussed with Trump’s close associates about being part of his cabinet.
Donald Trump has oftentimes talked about the necessity to reform the country’s deteriorated infrastructure, and this will be a primary issue for whoever becomes his Transportation secretary.
