President Trump has decided against an unspecified federal quarantine of several Northeastern states, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut after floating the idea to reporters earlier Saturday.

In a Saturday evening statement on Twitter, Trump remarked that he decided against a quarantine after consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the governors of would-be affected states. Instead of a federal quarantine, Trump proposed that the governors issue travel advisories.

“On the recommendation of the White House coronavirus Task Force, and upon consultation with the Governor’s of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, I have asked the [CDC] to issue a strong Travel Advisory, to be administered by the Governors, in consultation with the Federal Government,” said Trump. “A quarantine will not be necessary.”

As of Saturday morning, New York reported 52,318 positive coronavirus cases, New Jersey reported 8,825 cases, and Connecticut reported 1,300 cases, according to The New York Times. As of the same time, 728 people have died in New York.

While the CDC does not typically issue domestic travel advisories, the organization has now “urged residents of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to refrain from non-essential domestic travel for 14 days effective immediately.”

As The Daily Wire previously reported, Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) told reporters during a Saturday press conference that he wasn’t aware of the president’s plans for a federal quarantine of New York. The governor did mention, however, that didn’t “like the sound of it.”

“I didn’t speak to him about any quarantine,” said Cuomo. “I don’t know how that could be legally enforceable, and from a medical point of view, I don’t know what you would be accomplishing.”

Cuomo took a much stronger stance during a CNN appearance on Saturday evening, effectively comparing the quarantine idea to a war on state sovereignty, reports The Daily Wire.

“I don’t believe it is legal. I think it would be economic chaos. I don’t think the American people would stand for it,” said Cuomo. “This would be a declaration of war on states, a federal declaration of war, and wouldn’t just be New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, next week it would be Louisiana with New Orleans, and week after that Detroit, Michigan, and it would run across the nation.”

As The Daily Wire previously reported, Governor Cuomo also took a strong stance against Rhode Island, where Governor Gina Raimondo (D-RI) revealed Friday that she would be imposing self-quarantine restriction, and leveraging the police and National Guard to track down people fleeing New York and ask them to abide by the measures.

“We’re talking to Rhode Island now. If they don’t roll back that policy, I’m going to sue Rhode Island,” Cuomo said on CNN Saturday evening, reports the radio station 101Wins. “No state should be using police to limit interstate travel.”

Many people from up North are pouring down to the beautiful beaches here in the South to escape! How on Earth are you going to stop them?

Cut off all exits from New York and suspend all flights. Some tanks on the highway and put down road spikes. There are only so many ways in and out of NY by road. This is not the first time a city has been under quarantine, you make it sound like it is impossible to lock them down. There are resources you people don’t even consider that Trump has access to. Trump can declare martial law if necessary and deploy the guard.

Cuomo’s just looking for a reason to declare war on Trump.

    Sue Cuomo for being stupid!

Cuomo should’ve instituted a NYC travel ban from outside the US from the beginning. If he did that then NY wouldn’t have become the hotspot it is now. Our President can only issue a travel ban, a governor can close down air travel from airports.

“If you start walling off areas all across the country it would just be totally bizarre, counter-productive, anti-American, anti-social,” he said.

——– There was a time when the US had hundreds of thousands quarantined except it was called interment camps. This was under a Democrat President, FDR. I guess its okay since it was decided by a member of your Party.

Whatever happened to State Sovereignty Cuomo? Raimondo has her “Sovereignty” too.
