Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sat in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s chair on Friday, presiding over the House of Representatives for the first time ever.
The socialist took on Pelosi’s role as part of a routine rotation of House members. She did, however, become the youngest woman to ever preside over the House.
It didn’t go smoothly for the gaffe-prone Democrat, according to media reports. In fact, she struggled to even remember which states members of Congress represented.
“For what purpose does the gentleman from Ohio – um, from Illinois, excuse me, seek recognition?” she said as she introduced Representative Sean Casten (D-Ill.).
She also screwed up a second lawmaker’s state of origin during her time in Pelosi’s seat. The Democrat stumbled even though her task was a very simple one.
“In the event, Ocasio-Cortez did not have a great deal to do. She presided over ‘special orders,’ which are generally short speeches by House members at the end of the day’s legislative business, often on issues of concern in their districts,” Reuters reported.
Ocasio-Cortez is clearly not ready for primetime.

“That was my first time presiding. And it’s exciting. It’s certainly a view. I wish we could, I wish we were allowed to take photos,” she told the media afterwards.
On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez joined forces with fellow socialist Bernie Sanders to suggest a plan to pilot a program allowing the U.S. Postal Service to offer banking services, despite the fact that the U.S. Postal Service lost 3.9 billion in 2018.
