The mayor of a border city in Arizona has declared a state of emergency because illegal immigrants are overwhelming the local community.

Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls said the migrants being released by the U.S. Border Patrol are coming in faster than they are leaving, and the local shelters and charitable groups don’t have the resources to deal with it.

“There is an imminent threat on having too many migrant releases into our community,” Nicholls said in an announcement posted on Facebook. “It’s above our capacity as a community to sustain.”

The mayor also warned citizens about mobs of migrants “roaming the streets looking to satisfy basic human needs,” which the shelters are unable to provide.

As a result of the influx of immigration, Nicholls said Tuesday, he had no choice but to declare a state of emergency.

“Today I proclaimed a local emergency in Yuma, due to the migrant family releases overwhelming the local shelter system,” he said.

The mayor also asked the federal government to help the border crisis in Yuma.

“I am calling upon the federal government to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Yuma, as our [nongovernmental organizations] are over capacity and cannot sustain providing this aid.”

The City of Yuma, with a population of about 95,000, offered a similar proclamation on Twitter.

“Migrants being released into the community faster than they are departing, and shelters and the staff to run them are at max capacity. A state of emergency is declared,” the city tweeted.

And check out the KGUN report here:

This proclamation came amid a huge surge in border crossings, which has resulted in thousands of migrants being released into the country.

“The Yuma Sector has over the last two years seen an extraordinary spike in the number of immigrant families who turn themselves in,” The Associated Press reported last month.

“Yuma Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Carl E. Landrum said Thursday that agents have arrested 30,000 people in the relatively small sector since October 1.

“The facility in Yuma has the capacity to temporarily hold 410 people.”

President Donald Trump is right when he talks about the border crisis, and this should be evidence enough that a border wall must be built to address the crisis.

Thankfully, the Pentagon has already sent funds to begin construction for a wall in Yuma, but the border wall is long overdue.

Illegal immigration is absolutely crushing local communities in border towns.
