Former First Lady Laura Bush publicly thanked First Lady Melania Trump for her “sweet” gesture on Tuesday.
Melania Trump personally invited the Bush family to visit the White House and see the Christmas decorations and some of their old friends while they mourn the passing of former President George H.W. Bush.
“A sweet visit during this somber week,” Mrs. Bush wrote in an Instagram post.
She added, “Thanks to Mrs. Trump for inviting our family to the White House to see the Christmas decorations and our old friends, the residence staff.”
Melania’s sweet surprise comes after President Donald Trump’s incredible gesture to honor H.W. Bush after his passing. He personally ordered Air Force One to transport Bush’s body from Houston and then back to Washington.
“Air Force One will be taking myself and a large group of our people back to Washington. It will then be reset and it will be sent to Houston to pick up the casket of President Bush and then be brought back to Washington,” Trump said.
“We’ll be sending Air Force One, which is a special tribute that he deserves very much and it’s my honor, and again, he’ll be greatly missed. Terrific person, terrific man,” the president added.
“Looking forward to being with the wonderful Bush family at Blair House today. The former First Lady will be coming over to the White House this morning to be given a tour of the Christmas decorations by Melania,” Trump tweeted. “The elegance & precision of the last two days have been remarkable!”

Many people paid tribute to George H.W. Bush on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., including 95-year-old former presidential nominee Bob Dole.
He fought to get up from his wheel chair so he could properly salute Bush, a fellow World War II veteran.
